Commenting on the Covid-19 outbreak at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Welsh Conservative health spokesperson, Andrew RT Davies MS, said: 

“This is the latest in a string of concerning coronavirus outbreaks in one of Wales’s major hospitals. 

“Our thoughts are with those concerned and I'm sure there will be robust and urgent action taken to protect patients and staff at the Royal Gwent.

“The Welsh Labour-led Government must immediately explore all avenues to ramp up testing capacity, and to activate field hospitals and Covid-light facilities to compensate where possible for the inevitable disruption to services. 

“There have been several outbreaks in Welsh hospitals of late and lessons must be learnt, with all infection prevention and control measures urgently reviewed to ensure we can best protect both patients and staff during the winter months.”
